28.08.2020FORUM "RUSSIAN - JAPANESE COOPERATION: NEW CHALLENGES, NEW REALITY"
Construction of the Russia's first plant of a Japanese company Bridgestone has been completed in the Ulyanovsk region
On September 13, the Governor Sergey Morozov took part in the opening ceremony.
The enterprise, which was placed in the Zavolzhye Industrial Park, became the first production of the Japanese concern in the territory of Russia and the CIS. It will manufacture innovative radial type tires for cars conforming to international standards of quality.
"The Bridgestone management made a really global decision to construct here, in the Ulyanovsk region, its first Russian plant. We, in turn, undertake not only political but also social liabilities: to provide this company with the most comfortable working conditions. This will help to attract new Japanese investors. Equally important is the fact that eight hundred residents of the Ulyanovsk region will have an opportunity to work for the largest company in excellent conditions. We are not planning to be satisfied with what has already been achieved. Currently we have in our regional portfolio investment projects for the total amount of three hundred billion rubles. Their implementation will allow us to create in the Ulyanovsk region more than 38 thousand new highly paid workplaces", - Sergey Morozov said.
Total investment amounted to 12.5 billion rubles. At the moment, 470 people are working at the enterprise and under the full capacity the number of workplaces will increase up to 800.
"Our Ulyanovsk plant will supply products to the Russian tires market in order to provide Russian consumers, as well as the ones from the CIS countries, with the needed goods. But we think that in the future, in case we expand capacity, it will be possible to export some part of our products to other countries too. We are glad that we chose Ulyanovsk. We managed to quickly resolve all organizational matters and to start construction of the plant. The regional authorities always find a way to accommodate requests related to our project", - reported Hiromi Tanigava, the Director-General of Bridgestone Tire Manufacturing CIS.
The investor expects to manufacture up to 2 million tires annually. This number will increase up to 4 million tires a year as the automobile market will recover.
"By now the company has implemented only a part of the project, having performed construction on one half of the land. The project implies further development. As the demand increases and the market of consumer tires grows, the investor plans to construct one more production case", - noted Sergey Vasin, the head of the Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation.
The Ulyanovsk enterprise will launch mass production in the fourth quarter of 2016. Opening of the new plant, to which Japanese management of the company will be invited, is scheduled for spring 2017.
According to the Bridgestone experts, the company pays great attention to environmental issues as far as producing process is concerned and applies international standards to protect the environment taking into account requirements of the Russian legislation in the field of ecology and its own strict internal ones in the sphere of environmental protection. The plant will operate according to the latest eco-friendly production technology that requires environmental damage to be kept to a minimum.
