It is planned that the region will participate in events of the year of cultural exchanges between Russia and Japan.
Russia and Japan will hold a Year of Cultural Exchanges in 2018. The Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan Hirokazu Matsuno reached the relevant agreement at a meeting in Tokyo, which took place within the visit of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to Japan on 15-16 December 2016. This information was published on the official website of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
The ministry reports that it was Vladimir Medinsky who suggested holding an especially eventful Year of Cultural Exchanges in 2018, and Hirokazu Matsuno actively supported him.
Supporting the federal initiative, the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region Sergey Morozov gave instructions to promote bilateral relations between the Ulyanovsk region and Japan and to work out proposals on how to add upcoming events of the Year of Russian-Japanese Cultural Exchanges into the general programme.
In 2017, tentative arrangements have been made for participation of the Ulyanovsk region in a number of events of federal level aimed to promote cultural cooperation with Japan. For example, it is possible that a working meeting between the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Russian Federation will be held in the first half of 2017 in order to invite the Japanese representative to the opening ceremony of the Bridgestone plant on production of tires in the Ulyanovsk region.
Currently, several investment projects are being implemented in the Ulyanovsk region. Isuzu Motors Ltd assembles trucks on the territory of UAZ. The total volume of investment will exceed 150 million rubles. In addition, the investment project will provide up to 100 additional jobs and will be an anchor one for the UAZ private industrial park. Its work will offer a possibility to continue effective implementation of the strategy on establishment of an automobile building cluster in the Ulyanovsk region. Bridgestone Corporation together with its strategic partner Mitsubishi Corporation is building its first in Russia and CIS plant on production of auto tires in the Ulyanovsk region. Now, the construction has been completed and commercial production has been started. The grand opening ceremony of the plant is planned for the spring of 2017. The total volume of investment into the project of the German-Japanese company "DMG MORI" made more than 70 million euros. The planned production capacity for 2017 is 1000 machines. It is expected that about 250 highly paid jobs will be created as part of the project implementation. About one hundred of them has already been created.
